Summary: All of us think we know Short's life story. Her Mother died of radiation, and her father died in action. We know how she got into Recon and Several Author's have made educated guesses about what happened in the academy. But what about what us Humans call high school? What was she like before Recon? Before the Academy? This is one of two files dedicated to that subject, from when she endured the kid's teasing to her final stand....

I swore I wouldn't write a new story. I will probably type the whole thing out and never update...

The city is silent, save for the flapping of wings in the distance. A lone figure stands in the dim streets, arms bared and outstreched. A wind rustles the papers littering the streets, and she shivers, remembering...

Fire. Fire is everywhere. People scream, and her senses are dulled as if she is underwater. time slows to a crawl as she sees the mushroom cloud of smoke go up in the distance.

She can't run fast enough.

The girl moans and falls to her knees, arms still outstretched. She gasps, and her eyes flash up to the sky above. Cawing sounds in the distance.

People push in from all sides, crushing, killing...

Trying to escape.

Her eyes glaze over, and one of her arms falls to her side. the other remains outstretched to the heavens.

A crow circles in from above, landing on her arm. It looks at her with knowing eyes, and she tries to smile, an action near forgotten.

Night falls, and the crow flies.

That probably didn't make any sense. It wasn't supposed to. It is a drabble that may help me stop my writers block. Fell free to delete it if you want.
